Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia
FAF Toscana is the new body founded in Florence by the Tuscany Region on 16th July, 2020 for the conservation, management and promotion of the Alinari photographic collections. Its birth marks a new beginning in the long history of the archive.
The Statute of the FAF states that its main purpose is to promote a widespread culture of photography, starting with the Alinari collections, while preserving their authentic historical and cultural value, their physical integrity, and guaranteeing the best conditions for increased awareness of and access to them.
One of the main objectives is therefore to encourage the widest and most knowledgeable use of this cultural asset by all, in part through the creation of a Museum of Photography, and through the organisation of activities in the education and training, study, research and restoration fields.
The Foundation also aims to promote the history of photography and its role in society in Italy and abroad, through publishing, exhibition and cultural initiatives dedicated to the various techniques, styles, authors, schools and critical studies.
An important activity for the FAF is the development and management of its website and the promotion of the narrative possibilities of the images in the archives through their circulation and reproduction.
FAF Toscana collaborates with cultural and research institutions in Italy and abroad, with public and private bodies, and can also undertake commercial activities, signing licensing agreements with other archives and agencies worldwide.
