news | The Alinari Archives census
The project that explores and describes the heritage is off.
The census and the first level description of the materials (photographic and documentary) in the Alinari heritage kept at Calenzano safe-storage is the first, important step to organize, get to know and make its content accessible, since its overall description has never been made so far.
We have counted 133 collections until now, including archives and private collections. But this figure is probably destined to grow as research and censoring activities proceed.
The Alinari heritage is variegated and heterogeneous: not only photographs, positives and negatives (on film, glass, paper...) but also catalogues, books, albums, photography equipment. The different objects present different cataloguing requirements implying specific standards and practices but at the same time they are all related and such relations must be preserved and highlighted.
The Fondazione asked Hyperborea, a software company specializing in digital services for managing archives and cultural properties, to carry out the project and created a working group of specialized staff -both in-house and external- archivists, conservators and cataloguers.
Arianna suite is the software platform adopted to catalogue, manage and eventually publish the Alinari heritage.
Work is in progress, we’ll keep you posted along the way!
