L’Italia è un desiderio. Fotografie, Paesaggi e Visioni (1842-2022). Le Collezioni Alinari e Mufoco - from June 1st to October 3rd, 2023, at Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome
Fondazione Alinari is pleased to announce a new exhibit: “L’Italia è un desiderio. Fotografie, Paesaggi e Visioni (1842-2022). Le Collezioni Alinari e Mufoco”, which will be held at Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome, from June 1st to October 3rd, 2023, in collaboration with MUFOCO - Museum of Contemporary Photography.
The landscape is at the centre of the exhibition: an identifying element of Italian culture, as well as a privileged subject of nineteenth-century artistic experimentation, both in painting and photography.
The exhibition begins with the photographs from the Alinari Archives and continues with the works from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Photography, like a real journey through Italy.
Over 400 works on display - including original negatives, plates, autochromes, vintage prints or fine art prints from original negatives, up to large format colour prints and contemporary ways of presenting images - which, in addition to allowing the discovery of an extraordinary variety of materials and techniques, will lead the public through an excursus of the evolution of the ways of representing the Bel Paese.
The exhibition is enriched by a series of moments of unexpected dialogue between the two collections.
The exhibition is the result of a synergy between Scuderie del Quirinale, Fondazione Alinari and the Museum of Contemporary Photography: the latter are two of the main Italian public institutions dedicated to the conservation, study and promotion of photography, united by the intention of networking around the photographic heritage and share skills and experience.
