"Unicum - Photography in the Age of Non-Mechanical Reproduction" International seminar, December 13-14, 2021
The Alinari Foundation for Photography (FAF Toscana – Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia) and the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence are organizing an international seminar for the conclusion of a working project (conservation project) on Unique Objects (direct positives), a collection of the Alinari Archives owned by the Tuscany Region. The project has been funded by the General Direction for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture through “Strategia Fotografia 2020”, with a further contribution granted by the Fondazione CR Firenze.
The purposes of this seminar are the reflection and discussion on strategies of conservation, restoration, cataloging, digitization and promotion of 'Unique Objects'. During the seminar, the outcomes of the intervention on 2,891 photo-objects of the Alinari Archives collection will be presented, including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, Crystoleum, Eburneum, Ivorytypes, Pannotypes, Metallotypes, Physionotrace portraits and Autotype Carbro transparencies, in dialogue with international speakers sharing their experiences.
To complete the program of the two days, the organizers invite photography scholars, conservation experts, photograph conservators, archivists, cataloguers who have dealt with conservation, restoration, cataloging and digitization of ‘Unique objects' (direct positives), to submit a paper, either in Italian or English, on these topics.
The submissions will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee:

The seminar will be held online, in Italian and English.
